One of Finland’s most brilliant artists, actor-singer Maria Ylipää, is known for her numerous musical theater, film and TV roles. Her most significant musical role has been the main role in the success musical called Kristina från Duvemåla, written by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, which had altogether 300 performances in Helsinki, Gothenburg and Stockholm. Maria’s latest role was the main role of Florence in the Chess musical.
In the field of music, Maria Ylipää is known as a versatile interpreter who is at home on stage as a soloist for jazz bands and big bands as well as symphony orchestras. In Finland, she has worked with Anna-Mari Kähärä, Marzi Nyman, Emma Salokoski, Jukka Leppilampi, Niko Kumpuvaara, Jussi Lampela, Jukka Eskola, Jaakko Kuusisto, Jiri Kuronen, Jarmo Savolainen and Sonny Heinilä. In 2014 she debuted at the Savonlinna Opera Festival in the opera Kullervo as the Blind singer.
In 2010, Maria released “ Omani uni”, her first album by her own name with singer Emma Salokoski. Her debut solo album, “Onerva”, was released in 2013.
Maria Ylipää graduated from the Theater Academy of the University of the Arts in Helsinki in 2005 specializing in music theater. She has studied singing with Eija Orpana-Martin at the Theater Academy, 2006-2007 in the Danish Complete Vocal Institute, in 2009-2010 in New York with Tania Travers, and from 2016 onwards the Estill Model technique with Anne-Marie Speed, Ian Nicholas and Tim Richards.
